In the last six months I have lost my girlfriend, my apartment and my job. This could be seen as a series of terrible setbacks, but I think this is a wonderful opportunity. I have no debts and am now free from any responsibilities. This is the chronicle of my adventure starting over.
So, what do I do now? Well, "flee the country" was the first thing that came to mind. Before I was laid off, I had mentioned to people that I would bike around Europe and Asia if was unemployed. I was thinking of the Swedish adventurist Göran Kropp. He somehow rode from Sweden to Nepal, then climbed Mt. Everest, and rode home. Inspired by this, I am hoping to spend the next six months or a year on the road. I have also been looking into touring Africa as well. That is one of the three continents I haven't yet visited. (The other two being South America and Antarctica). I have gotten a lot of useful information from Eric and Amaya. Thanks guys! But before I can leave I need to get all the preparation out of the way.
I am planning on spending the summer getting my gear ready. I also want to designate the route I will be taking on the trip. Of course, there are a few other things I have in there as well. Like spending July 4th weekend with a bunch of friends at a beach house. Also, I will be going for a cross country road trip at the end of July and the first two weeks of August. To cap it all off I want to have a going away camp out and dry run bike ride, called the Rock'n Horse.
